SPOOKY!!!

Well, it's October and the Fall Season starts us thinking of Halloween, even though it's been in the 80s here in New Jersey, it's still Fall!!! Growing up I was always a HUGE fan of the Universal Horror films, still love them. So, here's a nod to my childhood and "Horror" ... yes it's SPOOKY!!!

Lewis & Larry: New Recruit

Here's a little story to introduce the new figure from the G.I. Joe Collector's Club. As usual he's a high quality reproduction of a classic Adventure Team-era Joe. The figure come dressed in a white t-shirt and boxers with the AT logo. Of course you want to also have an outfit for him, so the club also sells an Arctic Adventurer set in white, the gear is pretty cool ... white boots, holster and rifle to go with his white parka and cargo pants.

Fleet Week!!!

Well, it's that time of year again. Sailors get to come to New York City and let loose. Fleet Week is always a fun time in NYC, we not only get US Navy guys, but also Sailors from all over the world!!! So, in the spirit of the week, I took a picture of the bar I have been going to since 1979 and put some Joes in the mix. Anyway, if you see a Sailor, thank him, buy him a drink or give him a big hug ... anything to show how much you appreciate what he does!!

The Reboot of Mike Power - Part 1

The beginning of a new story!!! Mike Power is malfunctioning ... will the Adventure Team be able to contain him??? This is a mix of vintage and modern G.I. Joe stuff. The egg is a goose egg that a friend gave me, the cracked one was part of a quiche!!! The mini-Godzilla is something I have had for over 30 years, I found it in a box with my Aurora Monster Scene stuff from the early 70s ... I have no idea where he came from!!!

Anyway, enjoy the ride ... click on the picture and it gets bigger!!!

Urban Adventure!!!

Well it was bound to happen, I got so many new guys and only so much space!!! Last week I went into Manhattan and got the Urban Outfitters' exclusive G.I. Joe Air Adventurer with Kung-Fu Grip. Yes, he's prety cool, but ...

... he's dressed wrong ... a Sailor Boy!!! I also recently got two figures that show the difference between DC and Marvel. DC Direct gets it, they have been putting out excellent collector figures (they may be 13", but they still are cool) and Marvel has chosen to go for the more mass-market appeal and cheaply. Look at the quality of Thor ... he may be a nice figure, but compared to Captain Marvel, he's a cheap piece of plastic. Granted the Captain Marvel figure costs at least DOUBLE the price, but he's much cooler!!! Here's where G.I. Joe come in, he's an inaccurate reproduction of a classic 70s figure, but he still is a better value than either Thor or Captain Marvel merely for the fact that he is priced "right". At $20, he's 2/3 the price of Thor and well, you do the math for Captain Marvel!!!

I decided to have a little fun at Joe's expense ... I REALLY dig him and feel he belongs with Lewis and Larry in the world of "could have-been" Joes. I am a big fan of all action figures, mainly for their unique qualities ... do I want original 70s AT Joes? Sure, but I also want something that I can play with. The current crop of reproductions have an EXCELLENT "Play-Value" that I love.

SO, my advice to all the purists out there is to just go with the flow ... new and repro Joes won't diminish your collection and maybe, just maybe you may start to play with your toys and remember WHY you collect and love these toys!!!

Don't forget, the pictures get bigger if you click on them!!!
